Blood banana is a supreme ornamental for warmer climates or conservatories. The dark green leaves are splashed with purple-burgundy blotches. A classic of all-times for tropical gardening.

This wild seeded banana is probably native to New Guinea. It is one of the species that contributed in the far past to the creation of the modern seedless bananas.

As the plant grows too tall it looses the purple blotches and needs to be chopped to the ground in orer to be rejuvenated

Musa acuminata var. sumatrana was formerly named Musa acuminata var. zebrina
