Acerola is a cherry-like fruit native to tropical and subtropical American countries. Malpighia glabra is a small sprawling tree, 2-4 m (6-12 ft) tall, with small leaves, thorny in some forms. The sweet red fruits ripen during the warmer months, 2-3 times a year in the tropics.

Malpighia emarginata can grow in pots and can be pruned to keep it small. It is suitable as bonsai subject. Our plants belong to a selection named Florida Sweet, introduced years ago by the Government of the Canary Islands, with larger leaves and fruits, with no dangerous thorns.
