This is a canarian variety of the famous prickly pear or tuna fruit, a truly delicious fruit. It is a shrub-cactus from Mexico that produces fruits in mid summer. It should be picked when yellow-green, because it will be overripe when it turns orange.

Opuntia ficus indica is hardy to  -6 C (21  F). Hardiness is substantially increased as long as full sun and drainage are provided, and it can resist -10 C or even less, in the right conditions.
