In short words, this is the American Baobab. This American bottle tree is related to true baobabs of the genus Adansonia, which are only found in Africa, Madagascar and Australia: Cavanillesia also looks similar in habit because of its gigantic swollen trunk. Flowers and fruits are produced when the tree is leafless and it is quite ornamental when in bloom. It occurs in seasonally dry savannas from Costa Rica through Colombia to Peru. Regarding cultivation, Cavanillesia is deciduous, resting in the cooler months. It is easy and rather fast growing. Just like true baobabs, it makes a nice potted specimen as it quickly goes bonsai when grown in smaller pots. On the other hand, it can grow 50-100 cm a year if placed in huge pots or grown in the ground in tropical countries.

The plant we offer have a 30-40 cm tall stem.
