It grows  both in soil or epiphytically Leaves are succulent, dark green and glossy and flowers are deep purple and showy, with a metallic shine. It is easy to grow and it tolerates an occasional drought.

Capitanopsis brevilabra was formerly named Dauphinea brevilabra, because The port of Fort Dauphin is by its natural habitat in Saint Luce.
