Hohenbergia leopoldo-horstii is an outstanding exotic for collectors described in 1991 from Bahia, in NE Brazil. This bromeliad grows on hot rocky mountains at about 1000 m elevation. In this green form, leaves are pale green with abundant silvery and purplish tones depending on the exposition. In another well-known form, rosettes are dark purple, almost black. The shape is unusual by itself.

Botanists believe there is still much to study about this group of hohenbergias and maybe this green form and the black form are just two different species. Grow this bromeliad in full sun in order to achieve the best dark and compact growth. It grows faster in hot temperatures. Keep above 6 C in winter.
