This ornamental succulent plant grows wild in dry areas of Texas to Coahuila. Each leaf is decorated by showy white, curly fibres on the margins. It clumps slowly and grows into a mound of green succulent leaves. In some years each clump can reach more than 1 m in diameter. Tall, red inflorescences appear in summer and last for some months. They reach about 1.5 in height and individual flowers are red to yellow.

Hesperaloe parviflora is hardy to all types of conditions and it can take drought,  and an incredible amount of frost, to about -20 C ! It is widely used in "xeriscaping" landscape design in the SW United States.
