Black variety of the suriname cherry. This cultivar is usually larger and sweeter than most other types.

It is a subtropical shrub to small tree, producing sweet dark red "cherries", sometimes a bit acid, loved by children. It is called Suriname Cherry or Pitanga.

Eugenia uniflora is very easy to grow, drought resistant, and takes light freezes. It grows and fruits outdoors in coastal Mediterranean areas. It can be trained as a hedge or bonsai. It will also become a long-lived small tree up to 4 or 5 m tall. In tropical areas it fruits irregularly througout the year. Even here in the Canary Islands, pitangas give 2, 3 or 4 flushes of fruits per year.

How large are the plants for sale?

We ship worldwide plants of variable height, 30-50 cm tall. We will always try to select a robust potted plant for you, compact enough to fit in the box. Eugenias are easy  growers. Eugenias can shed some leaves during the shipment, but don't be scared - they will soon come back with new growth because they are very resistant plants. Pictures give you an idea of how the plants look like, but this is not necessarily the size of the plant we ship.

We ship worldwide a 1 years old plant, about 40-70 cm tall. It sheds leaves in winter, so don't be scared if the tree is leafless in the colder months.
