It is not known in the wild, only in cultivation, because it is compact cultivar of Trachycarpus fortunei, selected in China by Japanese horticolturists. It can take snow and frost, surviving to -15 C or -25 C, depending on local climate, man-made protection, and luck.

This palm is a new best seller in Europe. It is a small hardy palm with small and stiff fan leaves - only about 60 cm (24") across. It is not known in the wild, only in cultivation, because it is compact cultivar of Trachycarpus fortunei, selected in Japan for its beaurty. Its full name would be Trachycarpus fortunei cv. wagnerianus. Young plants are especially attractive because they have a cute rounded shape with a bonsai accent. Ideal for the smaller garden, and for container use.

Trachycarpus wagnerianus has a solid cold tolerance, down to -17. It can take snow and frost, surviving to -15 C or -25 C, depending on local climate, man-made protection, and luck.
