Low growing mesemb which indeed is rare in cultivation. It is sought after both because it is very ornamental and unusual but also because of its medicinal use. It grows creeping stems with abundant pale yellow flowers. It is evergreen and potentially evergrowing and everblooming, but it is better left dry when the summer gets too hot, or when the cold hits. When a Sceletium is resting, all leaves dry out and stay on the plants as "skeletons" (=Sceletium). This plant was formerly described as Sceletium joubertii and it is very similar indeed to Sceletium tortuosum, with an even more horizontal growth habit and other minor differences. Chemical content is similar to S. jouberti with minor differences too, which have been published in scientific papers.
