This living-stone plant is a living myth, as it was considered extinct until about 2014, when it was rediscovered in the wild in S of Klipplaat, Eastern Cape, South Africa. South African deserts are huge and it was surely tricky to rediscover it!

Pleiospilos simulans reminds the more common Pleiospilos bolusii and it is easy in cultivation, just as the rest of the genus. Leaves are less thick, flatter and often pointing outwards, without he pronounced keel, typical of P. bolusii.
