Beautiful and interesting, very stoloniferous Neoregelia species, undescribed until 1985. It has glossy yellow-green leaves, with wavy margins, flushing in mauve in the center. It is native to the homonymous Sierra de Sapiatiba, where it occurs in mata atlantica and restinga, often found carpeting rocky outcrops in submontane forest, spreading with its stolons.

Neoregelia sapiatibensis does well in cultivation in average conditions of shade and temperature. It makes a great display when it is allowed to grow mith many rosettes, spreading in carpet or cascade.
