Very ornamental shrub to small tree native to the harshest areas of the Caribbean. Leaves are evergreen, glossy, deep green, often with colourful petioles. Flowers are BLUE, abundantly produced in early summer. After a few months the show goes on with bright yellow-orange heart shaped fruits.

Guaiacum is a slow plant, especially out of the tropics. It is resistant to wind, salt, drought and it is not prone to pest or diseases.Full sun is fundamental to achieve compact-dome shaped growth and showy blooming. Hot temperatures will make more flushes of growth. Cool temperatures in the 10-20 range will not harm it at all but no growth will happen. It is killed by temperatures below zero.

It can be kept in a good pot for its whole life and it will make a flowering and fruiting shrub. It has also been used as a bonsai subject.
In subtropical to tropical areas it will enjoy coastal areas and will eventually become a majestic trunky gnarled tree, like olive trees in the Mediterranean.

We offer a plant which is 2-3 years old from seed, grown in a 14-16 cm pots.
