This small and showybegonia is native to Sabah in Borneo. Leaves are peltate and pointed at both ends. They are bright green, dotted with red-burgundy spots. It was described in 1990 and it rather easy to grow. The epiteth amphi-oxus means "in two ways"-"sharp".

This double-tip leaf shape of Begonia amphioxus is quite unusual in the plant world and only two more begonias (from Brazil!) are know with a similar shape: Begonia listada and B. malacosticha. One of the two tips is actually a basal lobe which was modified and moved to a side.
