This is a "wow hybrid" with white-marginated wide leaves and a long lasting bright bloom. Aechmea x 'Friederike' is a cross of : Aechmea chantinii x Aechmea fasciata, mutated through in vitro cultivation, developed at Corn. Bak nurseries in Holland and released in 1984.
In order to give you more information, let's cite the Bromeliad Cultivar Register of the International Bromeliad Societry: "Developed through tissue culture and is identical in all respects to 'Fascini' except for having completely smooth spineless leaf edges - height to 30" and width to 28" - in bloom up to 16 weeks. (...) the name is commonly mistakenly used as as 'Fredricka' or 'Fredrick'."

In our experience, this Aechmea hybrid grows well in cool weather, much like its
pollen parent:
fechmea fasciata. In turn, the different forms of Aechmea chantinii struggle or even die in our Canarian winters with lows of 10 C.
