This shrub is both an ornamental plant and a nutritious vegetable, often called Aibika, but a hundred different names are used in different countries. It was domesticated in South Asia and then spread to Papua and the Pacific islands. This cultivar bears leaves which are somehow triangular, smooth and wide, with reddish leaf stalks. It is another superior strain from Polynesia, that seldom blooms and grows steadily. If your area has warm summers then you will have fresh "spinaches" throughout the warmer months.

Abelmoschus manihot has different medicinal uses and it is especially good in cleaning the kidneys.
