World deserts and dry areas are home to the most interesting plants. Canarius offers an increasing selection of succulent plants of maximum quality, because they are grown outdoors, under the full sun of the Canary Islands.
Succulents or "fat plants" are water-retaining species, adapted to dry conditions. They store succum (juice, water) in their leaves, stems or roots, and often show a stout and fleshy appearance.
Exotic plants are species from other parts of the world, and they usually have ornamental qualities: a lush foliage, colorful flowers, unusual shapes... Here you can find a great variety of exotic plants: from Bromeliads and Heliconias, to pamls and houseplants.
Exotic plants do not have a particular use. Collectors buy this kind of plants for their rarity, for indoor or outdoor decoration, depending on their features.

Easy growing bromeliad from Eastern Brazil. Aechmea roberto-seidelli has an upright, funnel-shaped rosette of somewhat spiny leaves. The green leaves will turn reddish-bronze in medium to strong light with very light silver
This bromeliad is sadly extinct in the wild. It is a mid-sized compact rosette of glossy green leaves with some orange colour. It produces a rather large blue-greem inflorescence.
Attractive hardy bromeliad with golden-green leaves and brown-black spines. Aechmea triangularis flowers in late spring, with red bracts and blue flowers. It tolerates frost - some growers say it can take down to - 6 C (21 F).
Very nice brazilian bromeliad with "different" colours: leaves are copper-olive to purple-jade, and the inflorescence has pink-coral bracts and blue-purple flowers.
NEW!Wide rosette of dark green leaves that are very dark underneath. The upright inflorescence reaches about 50 cm in height and lasts for months. It is chiefly red, with some yellow scattered here and there.
This is a "wow hybrid" with white-marginated wide leaves and a long lasting bright bloom. Aechmea x 'Friederike' is a cross of : Aechmea chantinii x Aechmea fasciata, mutated through in vitro cultivation, developed at Corn. Bak nurseries in Holland and released in 1984.
Impressive frost-hardy variegated hybrid. It is a solid, perfect, showy monster that will be a tropical conversation-piece in any non-tropical garden. It was developed by crossing Aechmea distichantha schlumbergeri x A. caudata melanocrater.
Perfect hybrid with a graceful rosette of deep green leaves, bright red bracts and yellow flowerse. The inflorecence lasts for months in perfect conditions, while the flowers turn from yellow to white.
Frost-resistant hybrid, developed for non-tropical growers. It is descendant of the frost hardy Aechmea distichantha, crossed with Aechmea phanerophlebia. 'Rambo' builds a swollen monster rosette, of lime-green leaves armed with black spines. The pink inflorescence comes up from the top of the closed rosette.
This hybrid of sensational beauty has some blood of Aechmea fasciata. Bold red flowers are held by leaves of a very deep dark green. It is distributed from holland by Meewisse and the full name is Aechmea 'Rozanne Elegant Red'.
Excellent hybrid created in 1946. with red-maroon glossy leaves producing hanging dark coral-red inflorescences with blue tipped petals. it is perfect for hanging baskets.
Frost-hardy ornamental hybrid. The colourful bloom lasts for months and turns from yellow-red to bright purple. Rosettes reach 15-20 cm in diameter.

h= 10 cm - Cont.= 8,5 cm. The black aeonium is an old classic cultivar. Rosettes have burgundy-black leaves and the bright yellow inflorescence make a showy contrast.
A beautiful variegated selection, well-striped in different tones of jade. It is one of the smallest species of Aeonium but it branches with multiple offsets. It is a tender soft succulent, and will not tolerate frost.
Robust, rooted, unbranched plant. An incredible rainbow of colour! This aeonium is the boldest of all. Each leaf has a painting of dark green, jade, white and pink.
Variegated AND crested. This plant is truly unusual and will slowly become a bonsai-like tree structure. The natural form of this species is originally native to the Canary Islands.
Colourful selection of a branched Aeonium, with "rainbow" rosettes. Easy growing, it is probably a clone of the widespread A. decorum, native to the island of La Gomera, in the Canary Islands.
Beautiful succulent plant endemic to Tenerife. This species of Aeonium does not branch, it grows upright and it bears a huge piramidal inflorescence. "Urbicum" means "urban", because it is often seen growing among tiles on the roofs of the city of La Laguna, in an "urban environment".
