Trachycarpus latisectus is one of the most attractive palms in this frost-hardy genus. Its leaves have exceptionally wide segments and a thick, ringed trunk, coated with reddish-brown fibers when young. Its fan-shaped leaves resemble those of the most exotic Livistona palms. It is native to Sikkim in the Himalayas, at elevations between 1200 and 2300 m. This species was formerly called Trachycarpus sikkimensis.

It is reported to tolerate minimum temperatures of -14 to -17 C. It does better if protected by wind.

Here we offer a tall adult specimen, with 195 cm of solid trunk, potted in robust plastic pots: 70 cm wide x 50 cm deep. This plant exceeds the size that we ship via mail. In this case delivery will be by private truck transporters. Please write an email to enquire about this species and we will discuss transportation. Transport for one or two will possibly be expensive. Larger orders are welcome!

We started these Trachycarpus latisectus from seed in 2008 and they stood in the field for more than 10 years. They have been uprooted and potted in May 2019 and now they are looking very good, all rooted, with no setback of any kind. Many have flowered and some females are even setting fruits!

We have different sized Trachycarpus  latisectus, of trunk heights between 80 and 195 cm, We also have double groups.

Other large, field-grown palms available are: Trachycarpus wagnerianus, Trithrinax acanthocoma and Nannorrhops ritchieana.
