This tree in the legume family grows to 5-15 m in height. It bears fruits with an edible pulp and it is used medicinally and as a shade tree. Pithecellobium dulce is native to Central America and Northern South America. According to Wikipedia: "The seed pods contain a sweet and sour pulp which is eaten raw in Mexico, the Philippines, Pakistan, and India as an accompaniment to various meat dishes and used as a base for drinks with sugar and water ('agua de guamúchil')."
