This palm is a great ornamental. It is very beautiful as a juvenile because of the reddish stem and petioles. They are very fast when young. Once they start making a trunk, they will soon slow down and start to bloom. The red colour will fade and a new show will start: inflorescences are incredibly fragrant and long lasting. This is probably the most scented of all palms ! Hyophorbe indica is endangered in its native island but each day it is becoming less rare in cultivation.
