A medium sized, rarely available species from Western and Central Africa, with large leaves, to 1,2 m tall, with narrow blades, often >50 cm in diameter. The petiole is whitish at ground level and then it gets increasingly spotted in purple, and then uniformly purple in its upper part. Then it bears a fascinating inflorescence with an unusual, hooded pale maroon and yellowish dotted spathe, with a whitish base embedding a dark maroon spadix. It is found in savannas with acacias (now Vachellia) in large areas. Its tubers are said to be used as famine food and are boiled during two days in order to get rid of the toxics. Plant Amorphophallus dracontioides in any rich, very well drained soil in full sun. In winter keep dormant corms completely dry at least above 12°C. This species is said to be rather difficult in cultivation, but it is possibly a myth as some people put it in deeo shade where it often fails.
