This beautiful ornamental is hardier to cold than the other large-leaved Alocasias. It thrives outdoors in the coastal Mediterranean much better than Alocasia macrorrhiza or other species which woud lost most of their foliage in winter. Alocasia brisbanensis is native to Australia, where it grows from tropical NE Queensland, southwards to coastal central New South Wales, from the coast to 1000 m elevation. The petiole is winged and longer than the leaf blade, so the blades stand out and they are typically 50-60 cm long.
