Elegant mid-sized palm with arching, fan leaves, very regularly segmented. Trachycarpus martianus grows in the cooler mountains of Himalaya in Nepal up to 2000 m (6550 ft) a.s.l. and in NE India, between 1200-1500 m (3950-4900 ft). Trunk is smooth and often bare of fibers. Leaves are large, elegantly arching and regularly segmented. It is not as cold tolerant as other trachycarpus species and it will need protection in central europe. It will anyway tolerate frosts of -5 to -10 |
