Elegant palm native to sandy beaches and rocky coastal areas of the Caribbean. It is a short palm with a smooth ringed trunk, a robust crownshaft and and a crown of arching, dark green, leathery, pinnate leaves, covered by a grey-green wax. Beautiful inflorescences are followed by bright red fruits. Pseudophoenix sargentii grows slow and needs well-drained soil. It naturally grows in extreme coastal conditions so it is very resistent to salt and wind. It is damaged by frost. It is a slow palm, especially during the first years. The little plants sold by Canarius are older than one may think. The size of this plant is: h= 40-60 cm - Cont. 12 cm. |
