One of the hardiest palms in the world, from high altitude deserts. It grows wild on the mountains from Iran to Pakistan and in S Arabia. With time, Nannorrhops ritchiana becomes a large spineless clumping palm with several short trunks and very thick, blue-green, leathery fan-shaped leaves. They thrive in a wide range of temperate and mediterranean climates as well as in the cooler tropics. Plant in very draining conditions, in large pots or in the ground. It is fast growing with summer heat, but can take hard frosts. If kept dry, it can resist temperatures below -20 |
