Colorful fan palm, native to open forests and savannas of Round Island, in the Mascarenes. This grey-leaved palm is called the "Red Latania", because young plants are brightly coloured, with red petioles and leaf margins. Colour changes when they start to grow a trunk. Adult plants have leathery, stiff, grey-blue leaves. Grow in full sun, in moist and well drained position. Juveniles grow fast in hot summer weather. It is a frost-sensitive species, but juvenile plants grow very well in pots and can adapt to semi-shade, still showing some red colour. The size of this plant is: h= 20-40 cm - Cont. 12x20 cm. |
