A new, frost resistant, coconut look-like, described in 2007. Beccariophoenix alfredii is a new palm from high elevations in Madagascar. This robust, tough-leaved palm was known in the 1990's as "Beccariophoenix sp. High Plateau" and it was described as a new species in 2009. The remarkable resemblance to the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) might start a revolution in subtropical gardening, because seedlings of this species survived -5 C with no damage. The size of this plant is: h= 20-40 cm - Cont. 12 cm. |
