A "colder" form of the popular Archontophoenix cunninghamiana. Illawarra is a hilly costal region south of Sydney, that is the southern limit of the natural distribution of Archontophoenix cunninghamiana. The palms from that area are said to be hardier to cold than those from further north, so this "form" of A. cunninghamiana became widespread in cultivation.
