Gofio & Arepas

Gofio is a type of flour made from roasted cereals such as wheat and maize, rich in vitamins, proteins, fibre, and minerals and preservative free. Gofio was first eaten by the original inhabitants of the Canary Islands as the main staple of their diet. It is still important in modern Canarian cooking as a highly versatile product, used to prepare soups, stews, desserts and more. You can make: 1. Main dishes such as Escaldón de gofio is the gofio-based stew prepared in the cooler Canarian mountain areas. 2. The most typical Canarian Breakfast made of of milk, sugar and gofio. 3. Desserts, prepared by mixing it with almonds, honey or fresh fruits, such as bananas - Try preparing mousses and ice creams!.
Arepas are a corn-based flat bread, most popular in Colombia and Venezuela, now eaten in other areas in Latin America as well as the Canary Islands. Arepas can be grilled, baked, or fried. Stuffed arepas are prepared with wide range of ingredients such as vegetables, meats, cheese or egg, and eaten as sandwiches, often enriched with avocado sauce or the famous guasacaca. Plain arepas are often smaller, not stuffed, and used like bread. Sweet stuffed arepas can contain chocolate, sweet cheese, butter and more.Gofio de millo
