NOTICE: Dear customers, our webshop is currently closed, since we suspended the packing and shipping activity last summer. The nurseries are still working and producing new plants for the market. We are now making changes in our packing centre and we will hopefully restart in Spring 2012. Join us in Facebook in order to keep in touch.

Spectacular blue cycad, endemic to rocky outcrops in Central Transvaal, South Africa. Encephalartos eugene-maraisii is robust, slow and frost resistant. It is a solitary or lightly clumping plant to 2.5 m (6.5 ft) tall. Leaves are 1, 1-5 m (3-15 ft) long, dull, silvery-blue, strongly keeled (opposing leaflets inserted at a narrow angle on rachis). And the leaflets are of medium width. It is easy to grow in drained substrates, in large pots or rockeries. All specimens exposed to full sun will show incredibly grey-blue leaves. Keep dry in winter if heavy frosts are expected. It is highly endangered in habitat and protected with CITES. Our plants do have legal permits because seeds were collected from documented cultivated plants! We currently offer 4 years old plants, in 14 x 20 cm pots, locally grown from egally imported seeds. Actual leaf size is like in the picture attached, with the red rock as a background |
