Guanabana or "soursop" is a tropical evergreen tree native to the Caribbean, Central and South America. Annona muricata could reach up to 10 m (33 ft), with long oblong leaves and solitary flowers along the stem. Its fruit has a thin, leathery dark green skin covered with soft spines. Its flesh is white, pulpy, juicy and aromatic, with a slightly acidic flavour. The fruit is 20 cm (8 ") in long and could weight 250 g (0,5 lb). The seeds are toxic. Guanabana is very popular in all Central American countries. The fruit is available all year-round and is grown for its pulp and juice for drinks and also used in desserts as meringues and mousses.
