Billbergia x Hoelscheriana is a very old, cold-hardy hybrid with densely spotted leaves, a classic hybrid described in 1898. G. Kittel created it by crossing Billbergia nutans x B. saundersii.

It consists of tube-like upright rosettes on short stolons. Leaf colour changes in different light conditions and can be green, copper or maroon, with a hint of purple. The spots can be white to pink. Flowers are also beautiful but short lived.

It is very tolerant of different growth conditions. It can live in cool areas and resist to frost to about -6 C.
